ESG for Global Affordable Housing
Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) is the new narrative that will transform business. Every entity that tracks its financial performance, will also track a variety of other metrics. These are indicators of how that organisation or business is impacting the environment, society and its employees. As these metrics are formalised in different industries it empowers everyone to measure where their money is going and help put money to good, healing the planet and housing those most in need.
The HOME platform is a holistic system to harmonize universal ESG metrics for affordable housing sector, developed to enable every developer, large or small, to measure and track where they are and where they want to go. This will turn affordable housing into a data driven investment product helping scale the building of large numbers of sustainable, affordable housing that cities around the world deserve to have.
By creating a digital ESG framework not only can users easily submit information to investors, but there is an instant feedback loop. Information is entered, the system offers a score and provides insight into how you can improve it. This is a proactive service that empowers developers to take matters into their own hands.
We build on The Sustainability Reporting Standard for Social Housing launched in November 2020 by the ESG Social Housing Working Group – a unique collaboration of 18 housing associations, banks, investors, service providers and impact investing organizations. This standard formed a starting point for the World Home Foundation's universal ESG Framework for Affordable Housing. Our goal is to expand its initial focus in the UK social housing sector into a global framework for affordable housing, that is customizable for countries, cities and regions around the world.
